Whereas by an inquisition taken at Daventre, co. Northampton, on Friday in St._ Mary Magdalen, 18 Henry VI, before John Heton, late escheator in the county, it was found among other things that Margaret late the wife of John Trussell, knight, granted the manor of Gayton, co. Northampton, to William, lord la Zouche, knight, Thomas Grene, knight, 12. 18. John Kyngeley, esquire, Robert Aleyn and James Swetenham and the afterwards at the suit of the said William, Thomas, John and James it was shewn that long before the taking of the said inquisition Edmund Dive, Edward Maryot, parson of the church of Creton, John Jones -of Hardyngesthorn and Robert Aleyn of Blakesley were seised in their demesne as of fee of the said manor and by their charter dated at Gayton on Thursday after St. Peter and St. Paul, 6 Henry VI, enfeoffed thereof the said Margaret for life with remainder to the said petitioners and the heirs of James, and Margaret was seised thereof until by colour of the said inquisition and of letters patent dated 9 August, 18 Henry VI, and 10 November, 19 Henry VI, in favour of Robert Roos, knight, she was expelled ; and afterwards she died on 9 July last, and the manor is held of Robert Fyneles by the service of a rose yearly and is not held in chief, and John Trussell and Margaret were not seised thereof of the gift of Warin Lucy and others fidid.], nor did she enfeoff the said petitioners and Robert Aleyn, as is supposed by the inquisition, wherefore they prayed for the revocation of the said letters and for the restoration of the premises to them; and the king, by writ, commanded the sheriff of Northamptonshire to summon Robert Roos before the king in Chancery to shew cause why the said letters should not be revoked, and the eheriff returned that he summoned Robert by Thomas Foxley, John Basynges, William Ardren and John Cransley, but he came not, whereby it was considered that the letters should be revoked : the king hereby revokes the same.
