Inspeximus and confirmation to the abbot and convent of the monastery of St. Mary, Teukesbury, of a bull of Pope Eugenius, dated at Florence, 1 August, 1442, in the twelfth year of his pontificate, setting forth the following : Henry, archbishop of Canterbury, John, bishop of Bath and Wells, John, bishop of St. Asaph, William, bishop of Salisbury, William, earl of Suffolk, and Master Adam Moleyns, dean of Salisbury, papal notary, and others by authority of the king granted to the said abbot and convent, in whose church is buried Isabel, countess of Warwick, the alien priory of Goldeclyve in the march of Wales and diocese of Llandaff, held in chief, in which priory one prior should be appointed or removed by the abbot and two others should celebrate divine service for the good estate of the king and for his soul after his death and for the souls of the founders of the priory and of the countess, according to the will of the countess; which grant was effected by Nicholas, bishop of Llandaff, with the consent of the archdeacon and chapter of the church of Llandaff ; wherefore on behalf of the abbot and convent, stating that the fruits of the said monastery exceed not more than 2,000 marks and of the priory 2001. yearly, it was besought that the pope should add apostolic strength to the said grant; the pope therefore ratifies the same, quoting in this behalf letters patent of the said Nicholas, bishop of Llandaff, of Henry VI, dated 9 December, 20 Henry VI (see p. 29), of the said Henry, archbishop of Canterbury, and others above-named, dated Thursday in the Purification, 20 Henry VI, and of William, the abbot of Teukesbury, and the convent, appointing John Abyndon, cellarer of their house, to the said priory, dated in the chapter-house, 15 March, 1441; in testimony whereof these letters have been drawn up by Thomas Kenegy, public notary, and other public notaries and sealed with their names and seals and with the papal seal, dated 1441, in the 12th year of the pope, 24 March, in the parish church of Lambith, in the diocese of Winchester, with the consent of Henry, cardinal-priest of St. Eusebius, bishop of Winchester, in the presence of Masters William Biconult, doctor of laws, Thomas Kent, doctor of either law, John Nanfan, William Chount, Thomas Porthalam, literates of the dioceses of Bath and Wells, Canterbuty, Exeter, Llandaff and Worcester, and others; and the said Thomas Kenegy, public clerk in the diocese of Exeter and notary public, William Vaus, public clerk of the diocese of London, and William Brian, clerk of the diocese of York, witness and sign these letters by command of the said bishop of Llandaff.
