Commission to John Clerk, second baron of the Exchequer, John Isaak, Bamme, Thomas Nicholas, Roger Brent and John Nedyrsole to enquire the complaint of John Davy, esquire, and Robert Drope that whereas Davy, esquire, on 4 March, 1 Edward IV. and afterwards was seised his demesne as of fee of a messuage, a garden and 40 acres of land in the of Birchyngton in the Isle of Thanet, co. Kent, and enfeoffed Egerley, chaplain, Richard Cramme of Canterbury, co. Kent, wex- Thomas Smyth of Garlyng in the said Isle and William Hore, of the same and these were seised of the same in their demesne as of in time of peace and received the esplees thereof and enfeofted George, abbot of Westminster, and Thomas Herberd, esquire, now deceased, the said John and Robert of the same and these were seised of the in time of peace and received the esplees thereof, by an inquisition at Strode, co. Kent, on 25 October, 5 Edward IV. before Robert then escheator in the county, by virtue of his office it was found Henry Beauford, late duke of Somerset, attainted by virtue of an of Parliament at Westminster, 4 November, 1 Edward IV. was seised a messuage, a dovecote and 450 acres of land in Birchyngton and Membrane 6 Monketon in the Isle of Thanet, co. Kent, worth 100s. yearly and held of the prior of Christ Church, Canterbury, in his demesne as of fee, and the said messuage, garden and 40 acres of land were taken into the king's hands by the said escheator as parcel of the above, forfeited to the king, and the said abbot, Thomas, John and Robert removed from possession, and by letters patent dated 18 July, 8 Edward IV. (see p. 108), the king granted the said messuage, dovecote and 450 acres of land to John Brokeman, esquire, who is still seised of the same in his demesne as of fee tail, but that the said Henry Beauford never had any right in the said messuage, garden and 40 acres of land, wherefore they pray that justiee may be done.
