Whereas on the death cf Robert Ponynges, knight, by an inquisition taken at Holyngbourne, co. Kent, on Wednesday after St. James the Apostle, 25 Henry VI, before John Seyntler, then escheator in the county, it was found that the said Robert died seised in his demesne as of fee of divers manors, lands, rents, services, advowsons and possessions specified held in gavelkind and to these Eleanor, then the wife of Henry Percy, knight, and daughter of Richard Ponynges son of the said Robert, and Robert Ponynges and Edward Ponynges, sons of the said Robert, were the heirs and Eleanor was also heir to other manors and lands specified, and although the greater part of these possessions were held at common law and not according to gavelkind they still remain in the king's hands because Hleanor has not had due livery, the king grants licence to her by the name of Eleanor, countess of Northumberland, the younger, to enter freely into the said possessions held at common law and her third share of the possessions held in gavelkind and pardons to her all debts, accounts, arrears, issues forfeit, fines, reliefs and scutages due for the same.
