Grant to Alan, abbot of Battle, and the convent there, that the king's late request, made on the ground of the said abbot's new creation that they should grant to John de Icham, king's clerk, a pension in the said house until the king can provide him with a competent ecclesiastical benefice, shall not be to their prejudice or drawn into a precedent; as the abbot and convent have replied that although the king's demand of such a pension by reason of a new creation is without precedent, yet, out of regard for the king's goodwill, they have granted the said John a pension of 5 marks a year, and have prayed that this shall not be to their prejudice.
