and confirmation of a charter dated Exeter, Saturday after Day, 9 Edward II., which Walter, bishop of Exeter, with the of the dean and chapter of St. Peter's, Exeter, made to John de la granting to him and his heirs and assigns, subject to a rent of 40s. a messuage, a ferling of land and a close (clawuam) in the bishop's of Tauton, viz. that land which he formerly held at will at la Beare for which he was accustomed to render 8s. 4d. He is to do the service tenth part of a knight's fee, saving the suits of the bishop's court of as other free tenants do, for which concession he granted to bishop 20 marks in recognition. Witnesses: Sirs Robert Beaupel elder, Robert Beaupel the younger, Robert de Stocheye and Gervas de knights, William de Aula, William Isaac and Elias Broun, and By C. at the instance of the bishop of Exeter.
