The king having lately granted to David de Strabolgy, earl of Athole in Scotland, then coming into his peace, lands and tenements within the realm and in suitable places, to the yearly value of the castle of Chileham, to hold until Scotland, then at war with the king, should be subdued and until the earl should have peaceful possession of his lands in Scotland, aud that then the king would grant to him lands in Scotland to the yearly value of all lands which John father of the said earl ought of hereditary right to have held within the realm; and the king, to give effect to the foregoing, having granted the earl and his heirs the manors of Aylesham, Causton and Fakenhamdam, co. Norfold, to hold until Scotland should be subdued and the earl should possess his lands as above said, asa further favour grants to him the knights fees and advowsons of churches belonging to the above-mentioned manors.
