Commission to John de Hastinges, Nicholas de Segrave and John de On behalf of John de Hotot it has been shown to the king whereas Hervey de Staunton, William de Ormesby and Henry justices assigned to take an assise of novel disseisin arraigned them by the said John de Hotot against William Tuchet and others, names are contained in the original writ, touching tenements in Waterville, Aldewyncle, Achirche, Undle and Tichemershe, had in a certain place in the county of Northampton to take that certain persons with an armed multitude approached them and such threats and caused such terror as well to the justices as to the coming there for the assise, that the justices were unable on that to take it; and because on the part of Walter, bishop of Coventry Lichfield, and of the said John de Hotot the king has been again that when the said justices, for taking the said assise and any assise which the said bishop shall bring before them by the king's against the said William Tuchet and others, whose names are in the original writ, touching tenements in the said towns, gave day at Northampton, viz. Thursday next before Mid Lent, the same and many others, their accomplices, propose with an armed force to the taking of the assise, whereby the people of those parts will be the peace broken, justice deferred and other losses and dangers easily the king commands the said John de Hastinges, Nicholas de and John de Crumbwelle to assist the justices when taking the and publicly to inhibit under pain of forfeiture all persons from the caption of the assise; the commissioners are to attach all whom they shall find doing so contrary to the king's inhibition and have them before the king, wherever he may be in England, in fifteen of Easter to answer for such contempt.
