Writ to the Justiciary of Ireland and Thomas de Clare or one of to enquire whether Walter de Santrif killed William de Sancto Nicholao, and if so to grant him letters of pardon under the seal of the Exchequer Dublin. Walter states that when he was one of the watch in Dublin William, a common evildoer, gathered a party and assaulted the watch by night order to kill Walter and satisfy a private grudge. [1276.] SUPPLEMENT. 585 before Thomas de Clare : There were disputes between Walter in the course of which William attacked and wounded Walter. when a watch had been summoned and formed, William with a a layman, all armed, approached the watch which was assembled the tolsell (Theoloniam), and sought out Walter, insulted him, drew and attacked him intending to kill him, upon which Walter struck the head with a hatchet (hachia) so that he died.
