June 35, Inquisition

Writ to the sheriff of Hants to enquire with the coroners into the statement of Richard de Typpele and to cause any outlawry against to be recorded in full county. Certain evildoers came by night to the house of Richard Gentil in Typpelegh wounded Richard Gentil so that he died. Richard de Typpelegh, then a of twelve, was in the house, and being simple and ignorant, fled the district. his absence some of his rivals had him outlawed for the death of Richard and when he came back with a good conscience, being innocent, the persons took him and caused the sheriff to imprison him at Winchester. 5 August 3 Edward I. [1275.] Inquisition in full county : Richard's statement is true ; he is not guilty was twelve years of age at the time of Richard's Gentil s death. Endorsement : The sheriff is to be informed that he has not satisfied the because he was to have recorded and returned the process of outlawry ; is therefore to do so. C. Ing. Misc. File 33. Michaelmas 3 Edward I [1275] by the order before the coroners of Westmoreland : Roger le Chanberleyn, of Roger de Clifford the younger, and Isabel his wife . . . was wounded Thomas le Breton in the left hand so that he lost the hand. . . . wounded in the head with a shovel (de tribulo). And Ellis Rybile gave him another .. . of Thomas the chaplain, John de Saundford, Adam de Hoton, Bere and John le Surays were present. . . . William de Tyllington beaten and ill-treated by Adam de Hoton, who gave him the first blow . . . and gave him horrible blows. And Thomas le Breton, William son John de Flekebrigge . . . chaplain, Richard Bere and John de Surays present when he was beaten so that his life was despaired of.
