Writ to the sheriff of Kent to enquire, together with the coroners, in county, whether John Loterich killed Laurencia, daughter of John le Portur, infant of four or five years old, feloniously or by misadventure. West- 30 October 42 Henry III. [1257.] Inquisition On the occasion of a wedding in the town of Romenal John others were tilting at the quintain (currerent cum lanceis ad standardum). having run twice and broken two lances, as he had begun to run a third there came up a crowd to see the games, the child (puwer) having come among them opposite its father's house; and owing to the crowd the SUPPLEMENT. 563 trampled under their feet, and under the feet of John's horse, by C. Return from the king's justices at York. : Bartholomew de Brimhum and John Craghe were in court (curia) at Brimhum on St. Mary Magdalene s day III [22 July 1254] and they were disputing (Litigaverunt invicem) about hour. John went away and went to a tavern and stayed there then he went back to the court with a great pole (palwm) and to kill Bartholomew. Bartholomew was standing in the court (hachiam) in his hand, when John came up and struck him the shoulders with the pole, knocking him down, and struck him the shoulder while he was down. Bartholomew got up and on the head with the hatchet, making a great wound, so John and Bartholomew let him go. John afterwards went all about to markets and taverns, and died on the morrow of the (August 16), because he had neglected the wound. Bartholomew have escaped death unless he had defended himself. [1258.] taken before the coroners in full county of Huntingdon in of the sheriff : Andrew Bucstan (Bukstan in writ) killed Richard his man, by misadventure. On Saturday after Low Sunday (post Pasche) 42 Henry III [6 April 1258] Andrew had come from the Ives where he had bought a new sword, which he carried with him at Huntend , and he tried it upon a trestle (super quendam trestellum), it were stiff (rigidus) or not, the trestle fell and the sword glanced off it and struck Richard, who was sitting too near, in the side : C. [1259.] taken in full county of York next after Michaelmas 43 Henry III : de la Paneterie killed Geoffrey Dagon by misadventure.
