Writ to Gibert de Preston to enquire, together with the sheriff and of Leicester, whether Hugh son of Hugh de Burton killed his brother, son of Hugh, by misadventure or feloniously. [1257.] Inquisition before G. de Preston, Alan de Swyneford, sheriff and the coroners Bringhurst, the eve of the Assumption 41 Henry IIT [14 August 1257] : Wednesday after St. Denis 40 Henry III [11 October 1256] Maud, the of Hugh and Robert, sent Hugh to Robert to borrow (wt acomodaret) a which Robert refused to lend. So Hugh said he would take away the for his mother's use without Robert's leave ; on which Robert, being drunk, took a wooden fork and struck him on the head, making a large (magnam plagam) and knocking him down, and as soon as he rose purhim with the fork, trying to hit him again. Hugh being terrified took a (bescam) and threw (/anciavit) it at Robert in self-defence, wounding him the head so that he fell down.
