Writ to Nicholas Fermbaud, constable of Bristol castle. 15 December 31 Edward I. [1302.] Mquisition : Bristol. The morrow of St. Silvester. [1303.] William de Staunton clerk, to whom the king granted the smaller piece the seal appointed for the office of accepting recognisances of debtors in town of Bristol according to the statute, does not reside at Bristol, and been frequently absent, and does not continuously attend to the office he ought ; so that knights, merchants and others, who have come to Bristol make recognisances, wearied by trouble and expense in awaiting his arrival, departed without completing their business.
