Writ to the sheriff of Devon. Westminster. 6 February Edward I. [1292.] Inquisition : Sutton. Wednesday after the Annunciation, MISCELLANEOUS 449 Sage of Ireland of the town of Galuy freighted with salt for Ireland belonging to Robert Bernard of Warham, Simon de Faversham of and Walter Lumbard of Dublin, and afterwards appointed his servant de Sully his merchant in the said ship, and delivered to him all his by chirograph letter between the said Luke, Nicholas, Robert and and paid the said Robert and his partners six marks of the freight in crossing from Poitou, where she was laden, to Ireland was cast by a storm in Cornwall, whereupon the said Nicholas sold all the salt the same thence to the town of Sutton. and received the money from the sale and paid the said Robert and his partners only a moiety of the ship because they had not crossed to Ireland as agreed. Robert satisfied the said Nicholas as to the six marks paid in an account had between them before the bailiffs and more lawful Sutton, whereupon the said Nicholas made letters of acquittance to Robert and, destroyed the letter of agreement as to the freight, and departed quit. Sum total of the yearly value, 271. 10s. Inquisition :- 14 July. The said Denise held a carucate of land in Draycote of the said earl as of said honour for half a knight's fee and suit to the court of Wallingford and William de Draycote held the same of her for half a knight's and suit to her court of Appelton every three weeks; and afterwards gave the said half fee to Robert her son to be held immediately of the said by the aforesaid service. and the service of the said William was assigned the said Robert. Sum total of the yearly value, 119s. 4d. The said Denise holds a carucate of land in Alcrinton of the said earl as the said honour for half a knight's fee and suit to the court of Wallingford and John de Lodbroke holds the same of her for half a knight's and John de Stradelyng holds the same of the said John de Lodbroke for a knight's fee and by the yearly service of 1d.
