Friday before St. de la Hulle with others unknown came to the court of the dean at Oteri St. Mary on Tuesday the feast of St. Gregory the Pope midnight to break into the dean s granary and carry away the corn. dogs saw him and barked at him, whereby Philip Bateman, the dean s was awakened from sleep, and rose in his shirt and breeches, and a sword in his hand, and went out, and saw the said Richard with the standing at the door of the granary breaking it, and approached who was standing there at that hour of the night. Forthwith all the except the said Richard fled; again the said Philip asked the said who he was, and he would not answer, but took to flight ; the said followed him with hue and cry, whereupon the said Richard assaulted him with a sword and other arms meaning to kill him, struck him so that he fell; the said Philip rose and drew his sword in of death, and struck the said Richard, and held him still raising a ery, delivered him to the tithingman and township of Oteri St. Mary; the kept him in prison until he died on the evening of St. Gregory's following. Tuesday, St. Edmund's day 14 Edward I. de Cormayles, sometime sheriff of Dorset, deceased, took into the hand lands and goods of Peter de Monte Alto to the value of 20/. : Sunday the morrow of St. Matthias 13 Edward I. of Peter de Mohaud, who was indicted for the death of Maud Morin Dorset, and was found not guilty, were received by John de Cormailes, and Peter Bullemeir, as follows : of his wainage (de gannagio suo) 100s., issues of his mills 18/., boards, trestles, cups, shirts, tubs, casks, tuns, lavers, brazen plates, brazen bowls, posnets, andirons, baskets, a chess with chessmen of jet, 3 pounds of caddice (cadaz), 2 ploughbeasts, and a garden; of the issues of the dovecot 8/. with a dunghill, of of two years 40s., of timber 30s., of steel and iron 10s. In a chest were tallies touching a debt of 100s. in which Jordan, the sacristan of Minster, was bound to the said Peter Mohaud. All the aforesaid were carried away by the said John in his lifetime, while he was sheriff, by the said Peter [Bullemeir] then his receiver and now his executor.
