Writ to Thomas de Rokeby, escheator in co. York. Westminster. 22 Edward III. [1348.] By p.s. stating that the escheator has found by inquisition that Robert Bardelby, late prebendary of Donyngton in the church of St. Peter, York, by his charter granted to Walter de Brakenholm a messuage and of land in Donyngton, parcel of the prebend, without the assent of chapter or licence of the king. to the same escheator. Westminster. 17 June. endorsed stating that he has taken the said tenements into the hand. to the same escheator. Westminster. 10 July. of the said tenements. Donyngton. Sunday after St. James. 12s. is stated that no profit has accrued from the meadow since the tenements been in the king's hand as it could not be mown on account of excessive to the sheriff of York. Langele. 18 February 23 Edward III. [1349.] endorsed stating that the sheriff has warned the said Walter and de Shirburn, keeper of the tenements aforesaid, to be in the chancery on after St. Gregory the Pope next to show cause why the tenements not be restored to John de Sancto Paulo the present prebendary ; that came by Philip de Alcestre, clerk, their attorney ; and that the business postponed until the quinzaine of Easter, when no cause being shown to the it was ordered that the tenements should be restored. Wednesday after St. Matthias. late the wife of Nicholas de la Beche sold to Andrew de Saukevill which she had in her manors of Oldecourt and Chydyngelegh, was raped, viz. in Oldecourt 9 ploughbeasts, 2 bulls, 40 cows, 12 rams, 199 ewes, a hogget, 151 lambs, 12 pigs and 21 little pigs ; 2 mares, 12 oxen, 2 steers, 12 heifers, 12 yearling calves, 19 little pigs, 92 sheep and 92 hoggets; which were delivered to Andrew by Simon de Assh, parson of Bradefeld, then her clerk, of a debt due to him from the said Nicholas.
