Inquisition before the said William de Schareshull and Edmund de Chelruth. 23 July. Gilbert, father of Gilbert de Elssefeld, was seised of the manor of Yeshamco. Berks, by virtue of an exchange for all his lands in Blontesdon and co. Wilts, from 10 February 3 Edward III to 2 August Edward III, when he was removed without known cause by William Trussel, ; the manor is of the yearly value of 40s. MISCELLANEOUS 471 before the said William de Herleston and Edmund. Heghworth. Ellesfeld, ancestor of Gilbert son of Gilbert de Ellesfeld, was seised tenements in Bluntesdon and Crekkelade in the time of King Edward I seised thereof ; after his death Juliana his wife held them in dower ; John de Seynte Leyne, knight, in the time of the same king ; the tenements to Adam de Stratton by whose forfeiture they the hand of the said king as escheat ; afterwards Gilbert de Ellesfeld, the present Gilbert, sued his right against King Edward II and them. February 3 Edward III the king by his charter granted to Gilbert, the manor of Yeshampstede in exchange for tenements in Bluntesdon for which cause the said tenements are in the king's hand. in Bluntesdon are of the yearly value of 58s. 8d., and those of 14s. 6d. Saturday the morrow of St. Barnabas. de Gynes, an adherent of the king's enemies in France, had a messuage of land called Forsthwaythalle in Levenes, co. Westmoreland, Matthew de Redmane by homage and fealty and the yearly service of the yearly value of 20s. beyond the rent. de Tateham and Joan his wife have occupied the tenements since had 5 marks of land and rent in Castreton, co. Westmoreland, held in chief by knight service, the keeping whereof the king granted de Coucy immediately after the adhesion aforesaid without anything therefor; he died seised thereof and after his death the rent were taken into the king's hand by the escheator, who afterthem by the king's writ to Aymer Darcy, the present tenant. : Cokerham, co. Lancaster. Thursday after St. Barnabas. Robert had a moiety of the manor of Wyresdale in Gayrstang, held of Henry, earl of Lancaster, by knight service, which is hand of the countess of Pembroke by the king's grant ; since the aforesaid, William de Coucy occupied the moiety, which is of value of 28/. 10s. 2d. Robert also had a moiety of the manor of Assheton with a third the manor of Scotford, co. Lancaster, of the yearly value of 101. ; manor of Whitington, co. Lancaster, of the yearly value of 60s. ; held of the said earl by knight service. after the adhesion aforesaid the king granted the keeping of to William de Coucy without rendering anything therefor, after they were taken into the king's hand by the escheator and by the king's writ to Aymer Darcy, the present tenant. [1345.] Meygny] holds the manor of Schagh of the king in chief by the service knight's fee by the king's licence. INQUISITIONS The manor of Hampstede Marchal is held of the king in chief ; Sir Edward Monte Acuto, knight, is tenant of two parts thereof, whether in fee, as of inheritance of Alice his wife, or for life or a term of years, the jurors are Letter from the escheator [presumably to the chancellor] enclosing the inquisiand stating that he has otherwise learned that ten years past the earl marshal the manor of Hampstede Mareschale to the earl of Salisbury for fourteen ; after the death of the earl marshal the countess had the third part of manor for dower, and the earl of Salisbury held two parts until two years when he granted his term to Edward de Montagu, his brother.
