Inquisition before John Kyng and William de Lyndeseye, bailiffs of the town of Gloucester. Wednesday the feast of St. Matthew IIT. [1328.] Templars acquired 5s. of rent in Gloucester from a tenement, which Serle holds, a long time after the manor of Temple Gutynge first their hands, and annexed the rent of the manor. le Despenser the younger, to whose hands the manor afterwards the rent to the manor by his dominion and held it, whereas did not belong to the manor. before William de Brokworth, keeper of the liberty of the abbot of Sloughtre. Tuesday before the Nativity of St. Mary. the Templars first acquired the said manor there were no towns or belonging thereto in the said liberty, but long afterwards they acquired of the hamlet of Hertford in Newenton from Baldwin de Hertford, the said liberty, to be held by them and their successors from the said and his heirs by the yearly service of a pound of cummin ; the heirs said Baldwin hold of the honour of Gloucester, INQUISITIONS Templars afterwards acquired in Nywenton within the said liberty 8d. of yearly rent; and in Little Barnynton a messuage and a virgate held of John Crossun by the yearly service of 5s. and 64 acres of land in frank almoin of Alexander Fraunceys and William Flemyng ; and 6d. of rent; and in Little Rysyndon a meadow called Templeham, 20 acres, from Sarah de Tayden to hold of her and her heirs by yearly service of 4 marks, the said meadow being of the honour of ; and 3s. of yearly rent from the ancestors of Richard le Templer messuage. Templars attached all the said possessions to the manor of Temple because the preceptors, who for the time being had the keeping of tenements in co. Gloucester, used to stay there. le Despenser the younger, when the said manor was in his hand by of his dominion and power, annexed all the said possessions as belonging said manor, whereas they never did so belong. inquisition before the bailiffs of the liberty of the abbot of Friday before the Nativity of St. Mary. the said manor first came to the hands of the Templars there were or hamlets belonging thereto within the said liberty, but, long before, acquired from the earl of Hertford a messuage and land in Doudeswelle in frank almoin, and afterwards 46s. 3d. of yearly rent in Doudeswelle ; afterwards acquired ... from Humphrey le Brun, and from the then of Hertford 5s. and from Robert de Meysy 6s. 8d. of yearly rent, to hold almoin ; and from William Tyrel and Denise his wife 15s. 4d. of rent in Shiptone by Wydyndone, and from John Gaumbe 18d. of rent; also possessions in Oldeburn and Salpertone. annexed all these possessions to the said manor, and Hugh le Despenser afterwards held them, as described in the preceding inquisition. inquisition : Gloucester. Monday before the Nativity of St. the time when the said manor came to the hands of the Templars there no towns or hamlets belonging thereto except the hamlets of Kyngton Berton ; afterwards they acquired divers possessions in Wynchecombe, on Severn and elsewhere and annexed them to the said manor, Hugh le Despenser the younger held them, as described in the preceding Commission to Robert de Prestbury and John Giffard. [1328.] of the meadow of Pillesmor near the manor of Somerforde Caynes, Tuesday before St. Mark. meadow contains 100 acres, whereof 60 are of the yearly value of 45s. 40 of the yearly value of half a mark, and is held of the abbess of Caen yearly service of 20s. ld. Thursday the quinzaine of Easter. le Despenser late earl of Winchester, Hugh le Despenser the younger, de Sudynton, William Staunford and John Hasselegh took Elizabeth MISCELLANEOUS 255 now the wife of Richard Talbot, at Kenynton, co. Surrey, and her for some time, and thence conveyed her against her will to and thence to Purefrith, and kept her in prison for a year and 20 April 18 Edward II, when through force and fear she granted of Payneswyke, co. Gloucester, to the said Hugh the earl, and her manor of Castel Godrich in the march of Wales to the said Hugh the said earl and others detained her in prison for half a year. let her go. C. Ing.
