Commitment to William Seintgeorge, knight, and John Manuche London, draper, - by mainprise of Henry Bray, draper, and Russell, draper, both of London, of the farm of the and alnage of cloths for sale in the county of Somerset ; hold from Easter last for 7 years, together with a moiety of the of the said cloths for sale, rendering yearly the 1311. 20d. Thomas Wareyn esquire and John Gauter the elder of co. Somerset, marchaunt, had offered to pay, and at the Exchequer for the other moiety of the said ; and appointment of the said William Seintgeorge and Manuche as alnagers and collectors ; in terms as above : the king by letters patent bearing date 25 August [p. 10 above] committed the said subsidy and alnage to the Thomas Waryn and John Gauter, from Easter last for 7 years, a yearly farm of the 129]. 20d. which the said William and John Manuche were to render according to the of their letters patent of 13 July last [p. 12 above], and an of 40s. -the said William Seintgeorge and John being the farmers of the said farm by force of the aforeprior grant made to them, have agreed to pay the said yearly of 40s. thus offered, so that the whole sum amounts 1311. 20d. a year, and, to the end that they may have the said are willing to surrender the said letters of 13 July last into Chancery for cancellation. Dated etc. Whereas on 20 May 30 Henry VI the king by letters patent the farm of the subsidy and alnage of cloths for sale the county of Worcester and city of Worcester, with a moiety the forfeiture, to Robert Muchegode from the Annunciation last past for 7 years at a yearly farm of the 71. 3s. 4d. which . 63 p. 244]; and whereas the said John Neweton afterwards, 7/. 13s. 4d. yearly for the said farm, which sum the said has not refused to pay but, upon notice had thereof, has to pay the same for all the time; now therefore, on by Robert into the Chancery for cancellation of the said patent made to him, the king has committed to Robert, mainprise of Thomas Osberne, esquire, and William Slyngysby, gentilman, both of London, the farm of the subsidy and alnage ; to hold from Easter 30 Henry VI for 10 years, together a moiety of the forfeiture of the cloths for sale, rendering 13s. 4d. yearly, and answering at the Exchequer for the other of the forfeiture; and has appointed the said Robert and collector ; in terms as above.
