Order to the escheator in the county of Nottingham ; pursuant to an inquisition taken before Richard Byngham, late escheator, showing that one John de Loudham, knight, was long since seised in his demesne as of fee of a messuage, 30 acres of land and 10 acres of meadow in Karleton Lyndryk, called Le Whithall , and of 30s. of rent of assize in the same town payable at Michaelmas and the Annunciation equally, the said messuage, land, meadow and rent being held of the king in chief in socage by service of 6d. payable yearly at Michaelmas for a pair of gilt spurs, for all services, and being so seised gave and granted the premises to Thomas Carleton of Carleton, clerk, (by name of 30s. of yearly rent in Carleton in Lyndryk receivable from his free tenants in the said town together with his whole lordship the said town, to wit, in wardships, marriages, reliefs, escheats, of court of the said tenants every three weeks, amends of the of bread and ale, and all other services and servages the said tenants, and the rest of the profits in and without the town pertaining to the said 30s. of yearly rent, and to the lordship aforesaid, as well in mills, waters, wastes, heaths, marshes, lands, meadows, feedings and pastures, as in other appurtenances, without any withholding), to hold the to the said Thomas and the heirs of his body, by virtue of gift and grant the said Thomas was seised of the said land, meadow and rent in his demesne as of fee tail ; that from Thomas the right of the said messuage, land, and rent descended to one Henry as son and heir of and from Henry to one Thomas Carleton esquire as son and heir, and from Thomas son of Henry to one Walter as his son and heir; and that Walter was seised of the in his demesne as of fee tail by the form of the aforesaid until Henry Karleton, deceased, unjustly and without judgdisseised him ; and that by colour of this disseisin the said was seised of the premises in his demesne as of fee, and . so seised ; and that the said Walter is the kinsman and next of the said Henry, to wit, son of Thomas the brother of the Henry, and is 30 years of age and more ; to take the fealty Walter and cause him to have full seisin of the said messuage, meadow and rent which have been taken into the king's hand the death of the said Henry Karleton.
