Commitment to William Clifford, knight, by mainprise of John Nevill, chivaler, son and heir of the earl of Westmoreland, William Hilton, chivaler, baron de Hilton, Robert Hilton, chivaler, the younger, of the county of York and John Blakeden of London, goldsmith, of the keeping of all the manors and lands late of Robert late lord de Scales, who held of the king in chief, and of all other manors and lands which in any way by hereditary right shall descend hereafter to Robert, the son and heir of the said late lord de Scales, or to his heirs ; to hold the same until the full age of Robert the son, together with his marriage, and so from heir to heir until one of them shall have attained full age, paying at the Exchequer for the keeping and marriage aforesaid 200/. only, to wit, 100 marks at Midsummer next, 50 marks at Martinmas following, 50 marks at Pentecost then following, 50 marks at the following Martinmas and 50 marks at Pentecost then following, finding fit maintenance for the heir, maintaining the houses, buildings, woods, enclosures and gardens pertaining to the said manors and lands, and doing and supporting all other charges incumbent upon them. By bill of the treasurer. Be it remembered that on 18 May in the present year William Petristre of the county of Suffolk made a fine of 20 marks with the king in the Chancery for the counterfeiting of certain charters, writings and other muniments which concern the inheritance of Robert Wyngefeld, son and heir of Robert Wyngefeld, chivaler, who held of the king as of his duchy of Lancaster by knight service, and which were unduly sealed with the seal of the said Robert the father after his death, to the disherison of the said heir and the defrauding of the king. 4.
