to the escheator in the county of Buckingham ; pursuant inquisition taken before him, showing that Agnes one of the and heirs of Emery Nowers was seised in her demesne as of tail, on the day on which she assumed the habit of religion and the day on which she made her profession, of a third part of of the manor of Gothirst, co. Buckingham ; and that said Agnes on the days aforesaid was likewise seised in her as of fee tail of the advowson of the church of the said jointly and in undivided shares (insimul et proindiviso) Grace, who has likewise assumed the habit of religion, and Joan, whom Robert Nevyll has taken to wife, the second and sisters and heirs of the said Emery, by virtue of a certain gift grant of Edward III of the manor aforesaid with the advowof the church of the same to John Nowers, knight, (father of the said Emery) and Maud his wife and the heirs of the body of John, with reversion to Edward III and his heirs ; and that the said manor is held of the king in chief by service of a moiety of a knight's fee ; and that the said Agnes, on the days aforesaid, was seised in her demesne as of fee tail of a third part of two-thirds of the manor of Stokgoldyngton, co. Buckingham ; and that the said Agnes, on the days aforesaid, was likewise seised in her demesne as of fee tail of the advowson of the church of the said manor of Stokgoldyngton, jointly and in undivided shares with the said Grace and Joan, by virtue of a gift and feoffment of Robert Archer, sometime rector of the church of Gothirst, who gave and granted the manor and the advowson of the same to the said John and Maud and the heirs of their bodies, by name of all the lands and tenements with all other appurtenances which he had of the gift and feoffment of the said John, to hold of the chief lords of the fee by the services due and customary, with remainder, if Maud should die without heir of her body by John, to the said John and the heirs of his body ; and that the said John and Maud by virtue of the said gift and feoffment to them in form aforesaid made were in full possession of all the said lands and tenements and of the said advowson of the church of Stokgoldyngton ; and that afterwards Maud died without heir of her body by John, after whose death John took to wife one Alice, who still survives, and had issue by her, to wit, the said Emery, Grace, Agnes and Joan ; and that the manor of Stokgoldyngton and the advowson of the same are held of the king, as of the honour of Peverel, by service of a fourth part of a knight's fee ; and that the said Agnes made her profession in the priory of St. Giles, co. Bedford, on 21 April last; and that the said Joan, is the sister and next heir of the said Agnes and 16 years of age ; since the said Agnes has assumed the habit of religion and made her profession therein in the said priory, as Philip bishop of Lincoln has certified to the king in the Chancery, to take the fealty of the said Robert and cause him and Joan to have full seisin of the said third parts and the advowsons aforesaid, if they have been taken into the king's hand for no other reason than the reason aforesaid.
