Commission to Roger Power, Bartholomew Hastyng, Robert Richard Dawneres, William Jurdan, William Bocher Clayore, John Bate of Tame, Thomas Cowle of Cowlee, John of Henle, William Bocher of Walyngton, William atte of Lidstane, to levy and collect from all cities, boroughs and and from all secular lords of towns and other lay persons goods and possessions, and from others both great and in the county of Oxford, except the town of Oxford, and from ecclesiastical persons in respect of goods forthcoming lands acquired by them since 20 Edward I, the fifteenth and payable on the Monday in the first week of Lent next, which lords, magnates and commonalties of the realm, and the and burgesses of cities and boroughs, granted to the king his last Parliament, to wit, as great a sum as has heretofore levied in like case, and no more ; provided always that the secular lords of towns and lay persons and others aforesaid to such payment in respect of all their goods whatsoever the ecclesiastics as above for their portion with the comof the county, and that no one be spared ; and that be made for such tenth and fifteenth at the Exchequer or appointed place at the appointed time ; and order to them go in person from town to town and from place to place, and to come before them two men and the reeve from every and the mayor, bailiffs and four men from every city and from the most discreet and upright men of the said cities and boroughs, charging the said men that they have money levied and delivered to them (the commissioners) delay by one or two of the most sufficient men of every town or borough, or else to have the money levied from the themselves and answer made therefore to the commissioners ; always that answer be made to the king for the whole at the day aforesaid, so that the affairs of the realm be not for failure of payment through their default..
