Commitment to Thomas Paytevyn, chivaler, by mainprise of Kynard de la Bere of the county of Hereford and Thomas Oldecastell of the same county, of the keeping of the castle called Newecastell Emelyn in Wales with all its members, which belonged to Simon de Burley, chivaler, deceased, and is in the king's hand by the forfeiture of the said Simon, to hold the same from the time of the death of John Hastynges, late earl of Pembroke, one of the farmers of the castle, for five years, rendering 561. yearly at the Exchequer by equal portions at Easter and Michaelmas ; with clause touching maintenance of buildings etc. The said mainpernors and Thomas are jointly bound to the king, by a recognisance made in the Exchequer, in 1121. to be paid at the king's will in case of failure by Thomas to pay his farm within a month after any of the said terms.
