to the bailiffs of Derteford, the men whereof have paid 5 at the Receipt of the Exchequer for the expenses of an armed go with the king at his next crossing beyond seas, to surcease which they are making on the said men to find armed the said crossing, and to cause to be released any distraint by them; the king, however, wills that this, which is done in necessity, shall not be drawn into a precedent. By C. like on behalf of the following : men of Dunstaple, for 10 marks for the expenses of two armed men. men of Chelmersford, for the like. men of Henleye, for the like. men of Divises, for 5 marks for the expenses of one armed man. men of Stortford, for the like. like to the bailiffs of Staunford, the men whereof have promised 20 marks before a month from Easter next for the expenses armed men.
