Commitment to brother Guychard de Caro Loco, prior of the priory of Wenlok, at his instant request and that the lands belonging to that priory be not hurt by the occupation of another nor the goods of the same wasted, of the said priory and lands, saving to the king knights fees and advowsons of churches, to hold so long as the priory remain in the king's hand, rendering yearly at the Exchequer or elsewhere at the king's order 170/. at Easter and Michaelmas by equal portions, the first term beginning at Easter next, for payment whereof he has found as mainpernors Henry de Eccleshale, parson of the church of Caernarvan, in the diocese of Bangor, James de Watenhull, parson of the church of Wistanstowe, in the diocese of Hereford, and Roger de Ledbury, parson of the church of Southloffenham, in the diocese of Lincoln ; the keeping of which priory, taken into the king's hand among other priories, lands, possessions and chattels of alien religious of the power of France in England by reason of the war with the French, the king committed to the prior during pleasure as above [p. 31], and which the king, believing that the war would not last longer, afterwards restored to the prior as above [p. 189]; the king, by advice of the council, having thought fit to resume the priory and the lands belonging thereto into his hand, because it seemed to him and the council in the last Parliament summoned at Westminster that in the said restitution the king was deceived because the war still endures and it is feared will endure for a longer time.
