Commitment during pleasure to John Paumer, proctor in England of the alien abbot of Fiscaump, of the keeping of a messuage, 80 acres of Jand, 5 acres of meadow, 6 acres of wood and 8s. of rent in Horsham, of the lands of the abbot which were taken into the king's hand among other lands of religious and other aliens and demised to John for 500 marks yearly [p. 35], at the yearly rent at the Exchequer or elsewhere at the king's order of as much as others will render beyond 500 marks at Michaelmas and Easter by equal portions, if the same ought to pertain to the king by pretext of an inquisition taken by William Picot, escheator in the county of Sussex, and returned to Chancery and sent before the king, whereby it was found that the abbot appropriated the said messuage, land and rent to him and his house by one Vigor, his fellow-monk and bailiff in England ; but if the same be adjudged to the abbot, John shall be discharged from the farm thereof ; he having prayed therefor, shewing that the premises for the appropriation alleged above were taken into the king's hand by a judicial writ tested by William Scot, the king's chief justice, directed to the escheator, and that he cannot answer for the whole farm, unless the premises be restored to him.
