Commission to William Vivien of Shorham and German Hobelit to search in the port of Cicestre and in all places thence by the seacoast to Weymouth and in the whole of the Isle of Wyght all those who wish to cross beyond seas, that they carry not out of the realm privily or openly any money of the king's coinage or other money resembling the king's or counterfeit, except reasonable expenses, which the king wishes to be taxed according to their discretion and the conditions of those who wish to cross and the distance of the places to which they go, or silver in plate or vessels of silver, and also that none bring within the realm clipped or counterfeit money, and to take the same into the king's hand, and to certify the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer of all that they take into the king's hand and of the names of the guilty, and to depute others under them for whom they will answer, pursuant 1323-1327, p. 156]; and it is the king's intention that all people may safely bring to the king's changes all manner of monies containing silver, provided that at their entry in good faith they show the money which they bring and say that they wish to bring it to the king's exchange, and the same shall be sent to the exchanges under the seals of the said commissioners; and if they conceal or commit fraud, that which they have brought shall be taken ; the king having ordered the sheriffs of Sussex and Southampton and all bailiffs, ministers and others to be intendant to them and their deputies herein.
