Order to the king's clerk, William de Bevercote, chancellor of Scotland, to order the mayor and bailiffs of Berwick upon Tweed to deliver to Philip de Hastang, nephew and heir of John de Merk, a burgage in the said town which John held of the king by the service of rendering 6d. yearly by the hands of the said bailiffs, as was found by an inquisition made by the mayor and bailiffs ; proof having been given before the king that Philip is John's nearest heir and of full age, though it was not found by the said inquisition who was John's nearest heir nor could enquiry be made thereby of the age of the heir because he was born in England.
