Letters patent of Philip, king of France, reciting that between his brother, the count Devreux, Robert, duke of Burgoigne, John, Guke of Brittany, and Pierre, lord of Chambli, his knight and chamberlain, his envoys, of the one part, and Ame, count of Savoy, Henry de Lacy, earl of Lincoln, and Otto de Granson, envoys of Edward I, of the other part, has been made and afterwards ratified by the two kings by letters pendant sealed with their seals, a treaty of alliance and friendship for them, their heirs and successors, to be good friends against all save the church of Rome and except, on the part of the king of France, Albert, king of Germany, and his successors ; though if the king of Germany attack the king of England, the king of France will be the latter's friend against the former.
