Order to the escheator on this side Trent to deliver to Elizabeth, daughter and heir of Simon de Shersted, tenant in chief, the lands late of her said father, she having done homage. Be it remembered that on Thursday, 22 August, 25 Edward I, Sir John de Langeton, the king's chancellor, on the sea by Wynchelse in a ship called the Cog Edward wherein was the king ready to cross to Flanders, delivered to the king the great seal, which the king delivered to Sir J. de Benestede to keep, in the presence of Walter de Bello Campo, steward of the household, Robert de Burghasshe, knight, William de Hamelton, Malcolm de Harlegh, Ralph de Stanford, the king's chaplain, and Master Peter Aymerici, clerk. And on Tuesday about sunset, 27 August, after the king's crossing to Flanders, Edward, the king's son, the king's lieutenant in England, in the castle of Tonebrigge in his chamber there, in the presence of Sirs Reynold de Grey, Alan Plukenet, Guy Ferre and Guncelin de Badlesmere, knights, and Sir William de Hamelton, clerk, delivered . 391 the said John de Langeton, chancellor, the king's seal which was in England while the king was in Gascony, and John received same and on the morrow sealed writs therewith.
