Commitment to Thomas Chaucer of the keeping of two-thirds all the lands late of Ralph Stonore, knight, which by the death Ralph and by reason of the minority of Gilbert his son and heir, lately died a minor in the late king's ward, and also by reason the minority of Thomas Stonore, Gilbert's brother and heir, in the late king's hands and afterwards came to, and are in, the hands of the present king ; to hold the same, together the reversion of the third part of the said lands which is now in dower by Joan late the wife of Ralph, and also of all other now held by Joan of joint feoffment with the said Ralph otherwise for life, the reversion of which after her death should to the said Thomas Stonore or his heirs, from 7 December until the lawful age of the said Thomas Stonore, and so from to heir until one of them shall have attained lawful age, yearly at the Exchequer after Joan's death for such as she now holds for life the extent thereof then to be made, finding fit sustenance for the heir; with clause touching of buildings and support of charges; the said being made pursuant to the surrender (1) by William Wylcotes and William Beek, one of the executors of the will of Thomas Barentyn, of the letters patent of 15 February, 18 Richard II, whereby the king committed to the said William Wylcotes and Thomas Barentyn the keeping of two-thirds of all the lands late of Ralph de Stonore, to hold the same from the time of Ralph's death until the lawful age of Gilbert his son and heir at a yearly (2) by the said Thomas Chaucer of the letters patent of 7 December last (the same being invalid and insufficient), whereby the keeping of all the lands late of Ralph Stonor, knight, until the lawful age of Thomas, Ralph's son and heir, was committed to p. 455]; and in consideration of the payment of the said 2001. which has already been made in the Exchequer to the king's use.
