Commission to Edmund Bellzettere and John Spicere to levy collect (in person according to the form of the statutes, Writ to John Hende vacated, because nothing thereof was done. without substituting any deputy or lieutenant under the penalty contained in the said statutes) in the port of Lenn and in all adjacent ports and places, after inspection of the wares, the subsidy which was granted to the king in his Parliament, 4 Henry IV, especially for the defence of the realm, in consideration of the wars in Scotland, the rebellion in Wales, and the safeguarding of the sea and the marches of Calais and Aquitaine and the land of Ireland, to take the same from 3 April then next to come until Michaelmas then following and thereafter for two years (with proviso that any merchants found to be in default in paying custom on their wares are to pay the moiety of those wares, without any other loss, damage or charge until the next Parliament, any statute to the contrary notwithstanding); to wit, 3s. on every tun of wine for import and export (the king's prise excepted) and 12d. in the pound on all wares for import and export (wools, hides and woolfells, and wine excepted, and every kind of corn and flour and fresh fish for import, and ale for export for the victualling of Calais by the men of Baudesey, Faltenham and Alderton upon Gosseford); and to deliver at the Receipt of the Exchequer the moneys forthcoming.
