To John de Cavendissh, William de Wichyngham, John Brewes, John de Reymes, Edmund Gourneye and William Clere. Order, for particular causes, to stay until Midsummer next and until further order the execution of the king's late letters patent appointing them, five, four, three and two of them, the said John de Cavendissh or else William de Wichyngham being one, to make inquisition by true men of Norffolk concerning the names of the evildoers who with Henry Rose , 221 others committed the trespass hereinafter rehearsed, and truth concerning that trespass, and to hear and determine the according to the law and custom of England, and order to stay further proceedings thereupon; as by the grievous complaint Hugh Burnell knight and William Kerdeston knight the king learned the said Henry, Drew Gerner, Roger de Walsham, Roger Bonde, Bonde, John Bonde, John Perkynsone, William son of Robert Thomas Stanbote, John Carevylle, Thomas Sowere and Hardy and other evildoers and disturbers of the peace, armed and arrayed in manner of war with pennon (penuncello) by force of arms broke a close and two boats of theirs at took and brought away eight boats of theirs there found 40/., cut down an oak of theirs and mowed their grass there growing, dug in their marsh, and took and carried away the thence cast up, the grass and oak aforesaid and other their and chattels to the value of 100I., assaulted their men servants there and at Brunstede, beating, wounding and evil them so that their lives were despaired of, whereby for time the complainants lost their service, and inflicted other hurt upon them contrary to the peace.
