To the sheriff of York. Whereas it was lately found by inquisition taken William de Clapham, escheator in cos. York, Northumberland, Cumber- If. 473 and Westmorland, that Isabella de Vescy held at her death no lands of king in chief in that bailiwick, but that she held for life divers lands of other lords by divers services, the king several times ordered the not to intermeddle further with the lands which belonged to in that bailiwick, which she so held for life, and to inform the king there was reasonable cause why he should not do so; and the escheator to the king that he amoved the king's hands from the manors of and Scorby, which Isabella held for life, but that he could not the king's hands from the manor of Boulton Perey which Isabella held before the king's writ of diem clausit extremum was delivered him to take the lands which belonged to Isabella into the king's hands, custody of the manor of Boulton Percy was committed to Peter de to hold at will; and afterwards the king ordered Peter to inform whether that manor was in his custody by virtue of the said commission, if he had been amoved from the manor; and Peter returned that after manor had been granted to him and delivered to him by writ, no writ ever been directed to him to deliver the manor to any one, but that de Braham, Walter de Sutton and Peter de Crauncewyk and certain persons unknown, on 16 November last, had entered by force and arms certain stone hall in that manor, erected upon stakes (stachiis) in Peter's by virtue of the king's commission, which hall they detain by armed and they threw down another house there, and because it is found inspection of the said rolls that the manor of Boulton Percy was granted Peter on 8 November last, to be kept in the form aforesaid, the king the sheriff to go in person to that manor and amove the said power delay, if he shall find it there, and resume the hall into the king's and deliver it to Peter to hold together with the manor of Boulton according to the tenor of the king's commission, and if he shall find any resist this, he shall take them and keep them safely in prison, so that they not be released from the same without the king's special order; and if the sheriff shall take the posse comitatus with him, and shall the king of the names of those who so resisted, and whom he has for that cause.
