Memorandum, that on 16 April, 14 Edward II., the king being at and at the house of the Friars Minors, where J. bishop of his chancellor, was then staying, the chancellor in his chamber to the king the great seal under his seal in the presence of Thomas de Brotherton, earl of Norfolk and marshal of England, his brother, Edmund, earl of Arundel, Hugh le Despenser, the Hugh le Despenser, the younger, and Geoffrey de (sic) Scrop; and king received the seal from him, and forthwith delivered it to Sir de Northburgh, keeper of the wardrobe, who received it and it away with him thence; and on 18 April, in the king's castle Bristol, in the king's presence, the aforesaid Roger and Master de Clif, and Sir William de Horlasion, clerks of the chancery, the seal, and sealed writs therewith, and the seal remained after sealing under the seals of the said Henry and William in the same in the custody of the aforesaid Roger, and the king ordered and William to do daily what pertained to the office of the seal. upon the return of Sir William de Ayremynn from the marches Scotland where he stayed some time by the king's orders for the expeof matters touching the king and kingdom to the court on 24 April Bath, he put his seal to the great seal together with the aforesaid Master by the king's order. Afterwards the wishing to relieve the chancellor of labour during his illness, ordered by writ of privy seal to deliver the great seal to Sir William de to be kept by him under the seals of Sir Robert de Bardelby the aforesaid Master Henry. He also ordered by writs of privy seal said William, Robert, and Henry separately, to wit William to receive seal from the chancellor and to keep it as above eaid, and that he and and Henry should do therewith what pertained to the office; and chancellor, lying in bed in his inn, on 20 May, dclivered the writs of privy according to their directions to the aforesaid William und Robert, and writ directed to Master Henry he delivered to Sir Thomas de Evesham, for delivery to Master Henry, and delivered the great seal sealed with privy seal to the aforesaid William with his own hands, in the presence the aforesaid Robert and of Sirs Geoffrey de Welleford, Roger de Sutton, de Brom, and of many other clerks of the chancery ; and William the seal thus sealed from the chancellor, and carried it forthwith him to Westminster, and there he and the said Robert and Henry it on the same day at the third hour, and sealed writs and charters the aforesaid writ to Henry having been previously delivered him by the said Thomas.
