To the treasurer and chamberlains. Order to pay to Bernard the Carof military engines (carpentario Bridarum) 76s. 9d. sterling, due to from the late king for the wages of himself and company when in the king's service in the time of the war in the duchy [of Aquitaine] by an made with him by the king's clerk Thomas de Cantebr[igge], as by the letters of Henry de Lacy, sometime earl of Lincoln, holding the king's place in the duchy, which letters Bernard delivered into the late treasury by the hands of John de Sandale, then clerk, the late king ordered the constable of Bordeaux by his letters patent to pay the sum to Bernard out of the issues of the duchy, but nothing has been hitherto in execution thereof, and Bernard has restored the late king's to chancery to be cancelled.
