Order of the king's compassion, upon petition of Richard de Kirkebride knight and his fellows, collectors in Cumberland of the moiety of a tenth and fifteenth granted to the king in the parliament holden at Westminster in 10 Richard IJ, amounting as they aver to 1241. 12s. 24d., to have regard to the ruin of great number of towns and hamlets there by attacks of the king's enemies of France and Scotland, and to put the collectors at a light and not excessive fine for their contempt in . 659 before the treasurer etc. at a day set to render their ; and when the fine is paid, writ of swpersedeas in respect of upon the collectors to answer for that contempt, and discharge them, releasing any distress and attachment made cause; as the collectors have shewn the king that at his by virtue of letters of the privy seal and of a tally levied of the exchequer, which they have with them to produce account, they paid thereof 100/. to Ralph de Neville and de Clifford knights then keepers of the castle and town of and that they may not levy of the said towns and hamlets sums which used to be paid at every such grant.
