Margaret Mareschall countess of Norffolk. Order upon her at the petition of the poor men and tenants of Magre and to suffer John ap Jake, William of the More forester, ap Raulyn parker, John Frenssh, John Huchoun and other officers and ministers to commit no hurt, grievance or excess the petitioners or others for any cause or pretence whatsoever, will answer it before the king and council and save herself knowing for a surety that the king's purpose is so to chastise to their deserts all evildoers and disturbers of the peace have inflicted hurt upon his said men and tenants that it shall example to others, and in case she shall feel aggrieved by any and misdeeds of his said men against her or her officers order to repair to the king's court where remedy shall to her; as their complaint shews that it is found by taken by command of the king and council at Magre and and at Portyngton, Pille and Porterton before William escheator in Herefordshire and Gloucestershire, that king is their chief lord, that they are his tenants, seised by the in his name and sworn to hold of him, and are his bailiffs there on his behalf to do what is required, that on the morrow of of the Virgin last the said John ap Jake and the others and other officers of the countess with great number of accomby force of arms repairing to the town of Magre assaulted, beat and wounded the king's men and tenants and feloniously slew John Porter, William Hany and Robert Lanybeme and, ceasing not their malice, have beset the town so that the inhabitants dared not issue forth, nor dare they now, whereby some of the king's tenants there are imprisoned, and some have fled from their holdings out of that lordship to the king's person for succour, to the discredit of the king and in breach of the peace.
