To the sheriffs of London. Order, upon petition of Master Walter de Skirlawe the king's clerk keeper of the privy seal, John Gysburgh, Stephen Derneford, John Vyncent, Thomas Monyngton, William Holme, William Fysshe, John Swanne of York, William Lynchelade and William Couper, on sight etc. to deliver by indenture to the petitioners or their attorneys, to divide among them and their fellows according to the amount of their loss, as they shall agree together, all the property and goods of the king's enemies of France and all moneys thereof arising which are in the sheriffs keeping, and straightway after execution of this writ to send a copy thereof into chancery, and one part of such indentures which should remain with them ; as the said petition shews that at their great travail and cost they sued long time for themselves and certain other their fellows at the parliaments last holden at New Sarum and Westminster, and at the treaty last holden at Calais on behalf of the king and of France, for restitution of divers ships and goods of theirs taken at sea contrary to the first truce with France, and have yet obtained none, praying in part of their loss livery of enemies goods arrested at their suit in name of reprisal, not exceeding the value of 4361. 3s. 9d. according to the appraisement, some of which or the moneys thereof arising are in the sheriffs keeping ; and their loss amounts to 5,0001. or more, as they have sworn by divers oaths before the bishop of Hereford, Thomas de Percy, Master John Shepey and William de Dyghton the king's clerk.
