John Mountagu, William de Wychyngham, Edmund Chelreye, Tauk and William Luscote. Order not to meddle further in hearing and determining the matters hereinafter recited, upon an allegation being made that, at the time John Moubray Edmund Chelreye justices of assize in Devon held their sessions at as well for assizes as to take an inquisition by writ of nisi prius the dean and chapter of the church of St. Peter Exeter and Gist late mayor of that town, the bailiffs and commonalty thereof, an alleged trespass by the said mayor, bailiffs and commoncommitted against the said dean and chapter, Nicholas de Britstowe of Exeter caused proclamation to be made throughout the town commanding all and singular the inhabitants thereof to shut their furnish themselves with arms and armour, and come with power the said justices to hinder the execution of the said writ, that numbers of them so arrayed and furnished assembled, ran by the and repaired into the presence of the said justices, so greivously the said dean and chapter and the jurors of the said that they dared not come before the justices the dean and to sue and the jurors to acknowledge the truth, and so the remained undone, the king by letters patent lately appointed said John Mountagu and the others, four, three and two of them, William de Wychyngham and the said Edmund should be one, to make inquisition whether the said Nicholas caused such to be made, what other evildoers committed those trespasses and and upon other articles touching the premises, and to hear determine the same as well at the suit of the king as of the said and chapter and of others; as the said John and Edmund and de Bryan being before the council examined touching the truth allegation have upon their fealty acknowledged that there was in it, wherefore the king revokes their appointment. By C. de Heppeworth parson of Isefeld to William de Mirfeld Recognisance for 10/., to be levied, in default of payment, lands and chattels and ecclesiastical goods in Sussex.
