To the mayor and bailiffs of Sandewich. Order, upon the petition Peter Rostayn, Peter de Brassas, William Sedeserii, Bernard and William de Guillelm merchants of the king's city of to receive of them so great a sum as pertains to them an impost of 2d. a head upon the persons of the said merchants of their yeomen, and to cause the same to be deposited for safe with true men of the town until further order, suffering the merchants to pass to Gascony with their ships and goods without and releasing any distraint upon them made for that cause; as is shewn the king by the complaint of the said merchants and their that, whereas they came to England with ships laded with and other merchandise to trade there, though they nor other ought not nor in any times past used to pay any customs on their merchandise, the mayor and bailiffs are newly deof them 2d. a head upon their persons and the persons of their and are causing them to be distrained for the same; and king would consult more fully thereupon with the council.
