Order intermeddle further with a messuage of William Wakeleyn in delivering up the issues thereof, as the king ordered the to certify why he had taken that messuage into the king's hand, escheator returned that he had so taken it because he had found by of office that William acquired the messuage in fee of Thomas who held it in chief, without the king's licence, and afterwards suit showing that the messuage is held of the prior of the of St. John of Jerusalem in England and not of the king, and the king to order his hand to be amoved therefrom, the king the escheator to take an inquisition upon the matter, by which it is the messuage is not held in chief but has been held of the said out of mind by the service of 30s. yearly and of rendering 16d. in aid of the king's ferm of the town of Northampton by the hands bailiffs there, as a free burgage of that town.
