French. that John came into the chancery at Westminster on 28 acknowledged the preceding deed. of deed testifying that whereas Roger de Mortemer, earl of la and William de Ferriers, knight, have agreed to make exchanges of of Crondon, co. Buckingham, and the moiety of the manor and Lodelowe, co. Salop, upon certain conditions contained in an made between them, and upon this, in assurance of William's the matter, Ralph Spigurnell, knight, John de Bisshopeston, clerk, Laundeles are jointly and severally bound to him in 5001. by a made in chancery, William grants that if the said charter of be confirmed by the king, by words fully reciting that charter, now and the quinzaine of Midsummer next after William is in of the manor of Crondon, and if either Ralph, John or John or shall take that manor from him at fee ferm upon security to him 30J. yearly therefor, in case he be advised between now and so to lease it, and if the abbot of Notteleye, who now holds at ferm, shall attorn himself to William upon the livery of the recognisance shall be null. Dated Westminster, 18 May, III. french. that William caine into the chancery at Westminster on acknowledged the preceding deed. of indenture witnessing that Roger de Mortemer, earl of la granted to William de Ferriers, knight, the manor of Crondon, the fees and advowsons pertaining thereto which are not the town of Crondon excepted, to hold in exchange for a moiety and of the town of Lodelowe, co. Salop, fees and advowsons not situated in the town of Lodelowe excepted, upon condition manor of Crondon in time to come be seized into the king's any cause heretofore existing which shall be adjudged as of right king and William without collusion or default, to hold to the William cannot have that manor again out of the king's if William be impleaded for the manor and it be lost by action tried without his default, or if the manor be charged to any one rent charge, it shall be lawful for William to enter and retain the of the manor and town of Lodelowe, except the fees and advowexcepted, and the gift and feoffment made by him of the same and void, and the said earl shall warrant the manor of Crondou ; and William has granted to the earl the moiety of the manor of Lodelowe to hold in exchange for the manor of Crondon as upon condition that if in time to come the said moiety be seized king's hand by any cause heretofore existing which shall be as of right between the king and the earl without collusion and the earl cannot have that moiety again out of the king's 28. 11. 11. 12. 16. hand, or if the earl be impleaded for that moiety and it be lost by action tried or otherwise without the earl's default, or if the moiety be charged to anyone with any rent charge, it shall be lawful for the earl to enter and retain the manor of Crondon without contradiction of William, and the gift and feoffment made to him of that manor shall be null and void, and William shall warrant the said moiety to the earl.
