Whereas it has been ordained by and his council that in the city of London and its suburbs, in all of England towards the north and towards the south as far as and in that town the gallon of wine shall not be sold for 6d. and in all ports from Southampton towards the west as well counties of Southampton, Somerset, Gloucester, Cornwall and Devon the gallon of wine shall not be sold for more than 5d., and in situate inland (in loco sicco) wp to 25 miles from the port where is carried, the gallon of wine shall be sold for 3d. and no more the price at which it is sold in the port and in towns up to 25 miles distant, it shall be sold for 1d. beyond the said price and no more, is more abundant and may be sold for a less price; order upon these presents, to cause all the premises to be proclaimed and forbidding tayerners and vintners to sell wine contrary to this upon pain of forfeiture, and if they find any doing the contrary proclamation, to arrest all their wine without delay and keep it until further order, certifying the king in chancery from time to the wine so arrested and the owners thereof.
