Darcey of Knayth and his fellows, justices appointed to enquire purprestures and purprises made upon the king's soil in the of Holdernesse and concerning concealed lands, custodies and pertaining to him there and certain other things. Whereas on found by inquisition taken by Nicholas Gower, then escheator in that liberty, that Herbert de Sancto Quintino at his death held the manor of Brandesburton in Holdernesse jointly with Margery his wife, to themselves and the heirs of their bodies, of the gift of Robert, bishop of Salisbury and Nicholas le Mareschal, parson of Staunton church, by a fine levied in the king's court, and that the manor is held in chief as of the honour of Albemarle, in the king's hand, by certain services, on 26 June in the 21st year of the reign, Margery's fealty having been taken, the king ordered the escheator not to intermeddle further with that manor, restoring the issues thereof to her; and Roger Husee, knight, and the said Margery, now his wife, have shown the king that because it was shown before the justices, the truth being suppressed, that Herbert at his death was seised of that manor in his demesne as of fee, Elizabeth and Eleanor his daughters and heirs being under age, the justices caused the manor to be taken into the king's hand in the name of a custody and delivered to Peter de Grymesby, now escheator in the said liberty, whereupon Herbert and Margery have besought the king to provide a remedy, and because it is not right that anyone should be amoved from his free tenement without answer, by pretext of such presentment, the king ordered the escheator not to intermeddle further with the manor and to deliver the issues thereof to Roger and Margery, saving the king's right to the custody of the manor if any pertains to him: the king therefore orders the justices to supersede further process against Roger and Margery by pretext of the presentment aforesaid.
