Order to cause the manor of Daneby upon Wysk to be taken into the king's hand and kept safely until further order, if he find by iniquisition taken in the presence of certain lieges deputed by Queen Philippa, to whom the king committed the custody of John, duke of Brittany and earl of Richemond, and of the manor and lands pertaining to him, that Geoffrey le Scrop held the manor for life, and to take inquisition of whom the manor is held, by what service and what it is worth yearly, sending those inquisitions to chancery without delay under his seal, as the king on learning by inquisition taken by an escheator in that county that Geoffrey, at his death, held the manor and the adyowson of the church of the manor in his demesne as of fee, in chief, and that Henry le Scrop, his son, was his next heir and of full age, ordered that escheator to deliver to Henry all the lands whereof Geoffrey was so seised, and Henry entered the manor under the pretext of an acquisition which Geoffrey made of the manor and adyowson, and of the said order ; but now the king has learned that Geoffrey held the manor for life by the earl's grant, and that he had no other estate in that manor. 6.
