de Chalfhunt, escheator in cos. Bedford and Buckingham. the king's hand from a messuage, 18 acres of land and of John de la Haye in Wilton, co. Bedford, and not to further therewith, after taking John's fealty, as the king escheator to certify him concerning the taking of the premises hand, and the escheator returned that Master John escheator of the late king in co. Bedford, so took the it was found by inquisition of office taken before that John de la Haye acquired those tenements for le White of Wilden, who held them in chief, as of Peverell, without licence, which tenements so charged by John Walewayn in 101. yearly and still remain the escheator in that county, and the king appointed John John de Berneye to take an inquisition on the matter by of co. Bedford, by which it is found that John le White said tenements to John de la Haye of Wildon for life, and White held them of the late king as of the honour aforesaid, de la Haye is surviving.
