To the sheriff of Devon. Nicholas Renolf, merchant, of St. Matthieu in Britanny, has besought the king to provide a remedy, as Robert le Whyte of Plummuth freighted a ship of his called la Seint Jame of Boston to take certain merchandise from the parts of Britanny to Plummuth, and Robert caused the ship when at Plummuth to be taken with the merchandise to Wales, contrary to the will of Nicholas, and he detains the ship and refuses to pay the freight to Nicholas ; the king therefore orders the sheriff to call Richard before him, and if he finds by his acknowledgment by inquisition or otherwise that the premises contain the truth he shall compel and distrain Robert to restore the ship or the price of the same, to pay for the freighting and give satisfaction to Nicholas for the damages sustained by him for this cause. 10. To the sheriff of Kent. Order to attach John Gyne, Nicholas Peyk and Robert Salman, masters of three ships called la Michel, la Godbyet, and la Margarete, of Clyve, to have them before the king and his council at Westminster on Monday the morrow of the month of Easter next, to answer for their trespass and contempt, and further to do and receive what shall he ordained by the king and council, and to cause the ships to be arrested without delay and kept safely until further order,as for the passage of Walter de Mauny and others about to set out to Brittany in the king's service, the king ordered the said three ships to be arrested and caused certain sums of money as an earnest (errarum) to be paid to John, Nicholas and Robert to come to Portesmuth on a certain day now long past, where the king ordered the ships to be assembled for such passage, and John,
