To the treasurer and barons of the exchequer, Dublin. Whereas it is found by inquisition taken by John Gernoun and John de Grauntsete, by writ under the seal used in Ireland, by virtue of a writ under the seal used in England, to the keeper of lreland, that the prior and convent of the cathedral church of Holy Trinity, Dublin, hold the . Parr 1. 473 and its appurtenances in frank almoin as their predecessors have from time out of mind and that at a voidance the subpriors and have not been wont to seek licence to elect a prior from the nor has restitution of the temporalities of the priory been made the priors by the king, until Walter de la Pulle, escheator of the king in Ireland, in the 19th year of that reign, the priory being void by resignation of brother Hugh le Joevene, took the temporalities of the into the king's hand, which were delivered with the issues thereof, the council of the late king and by his writ, to the sub-prior; to answer the king for the issues if they ought to pertain to him; and John Moris, escheator in Ireland, afterwards took the temporalities into the hand at the death of brother Robert de Gloucestr [ia] then prior, and temporalities and issues were delivered to the subprior in the form and that afterwards Edmund de Mortein, late escheator in Ireland, the 11th year of the present king's reign, took the temporalities into the hand by the deposition of brother Roger Goioun, the late prior; and at the suit of the subprior and convent, the temporalities were to them by the council and by the king's writ to the escheator, Thomas Wogan, afterwards escheator in Ireland, took the temporalities the king's hand by Roger's deposition, and the temporalities and issues delivered to the subprior and convent by the council and the king's and that the king has never had the custody of the priory or its during voidances, until Walter took them into the king's and the king has never intermeddled therewith at such times except the escheators as aforesaid, and because it is not clear by the said or by a certificate of the treasurer and barons sent into the at England by the king's order, that answer was made to the late for any issues of the priory or its temporalities during voidances and many times and for what causes the priory was taken by the escheators aforesaid, the king orders the treasurer and barons to inspect the rolls and memoranda of their exchequer upon the matter and to inform him of they find before Michaelmas next or on that day at latest, and to supersede the demand made on the prior to render his account for the issues of the priory and of the temporalities by reason of the voidances when they were taken into the king's hand as aforesaid.
